Holocaust is one of the most influential bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland. They were formed in 1977 by guitarist John Mortimer, who remains the central pillar of the band to this day. The band became known for its raw and dynamic sound, combining classic heavy metal with the energy of punk. Their debut album is considered a classic in its genre, including the "anthem" Heavy Metal Mania. Despite their limited commercial success, they have influenced huge names in the metal scene. Metallica covered their track The Small Hours, while Gamma Ray and Six Feet Under have also paid tribute with covers.
