Black Uhuru is a renowned reggae band that was founded in 1972 in Jamaica. Their name means "freedom" in Swahili. Originally formed by Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, Don Carlos, and Rudolph "Garth" Dennis, the band achieved great success in the 1980s under the guidance of producer Sly Dunbar and collaboration with Michael Rose and Puma Jones. They are known for their distinctive sound that combines traditional reggae elements with modern sonic influences. Their album "Anthem" won the first Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1985. Black Uhuru remains an influential name in the reggae music scene, continuing their performances and recordings to this day.
