Osibisa by Osibisa
About the album Osibisa
Osibisa, originating from Ghana, was formed in London in the late 1960s, but their first recording, which was self-titled, was released in 1971.
The album Osibisa is a mix of African rhythms, rock, and jazz-rock passages. From the debut, tracks like The Dawn, Music For Gong Gong, and Think About The People stood out. The English designer Roger Dean - who later worked on album covers for Yes and Asia - designed the cover of Osibisa's debut. The elephants on the cover would become the band's trademark.
Tony Visconti played a significant role in the album's success as its producer. Osibisa reached No55 on the Billboard chart, No11 in the UK, No47 in Canada, and No13 in Australia.
