About the album Helplessness Blues

The singer and composer of Fleet Foxes, Robin Pecknold, aimed to prepare his band's second album a year after their successful debut in 2008. Eventually, due to various reasons and setbacks, the band managed to gather in 2010 to write and record new material, and the release of their second album titled Helplessness Blues took place in May 2011.

Fleet Foxes persist again with the sound that introduced them to a wider audience in their debut. Folk-rock compositions with a strong inclination to move towards chamber pop, as well as indie rock. Robin Pecknold has stated that he tried to make his compositions less pop than the previous record (!) Fleet Foxes manage in Helplessness Blues to create a musical atmosphere that gives you the sense of stemming from the late 1960s. Even the cover art - a work by painter Christopher Anderson - prepares you for a plunge into the years of psychedelia, let alone the content of the record. The album's producer was once again Phil Ek, who of course worked closely with the band members.

Fortunately for them, people had not forgotten Fleet Foxes and were awaiting their return. Helplessness Blues was loved by the public to the extent that it went gold in the United States and the United Kingdom, reaching the 4th and 2nd positions in the official charts of these countries, respectively, while it also had a very commendable trajectory in many other European countries. For example, the album went gold in Portugal (!)
